The Elizabeth Landmark breaks ground

The Elizabeth Landmark reaches a significant milestone as the project has officially broken ground.

This represents the culmination of years of careful planning and diligent preparation. By commencing work on-site, we begin to realise the vision of Lord Devonport: a robust and long-lasting destination in rural Northumberland, telling the story of the Commonwealth and celebrating the work of Queen Elizabeth II.

With construction equipment mobilised and the groundwork underway, this initial step lays the foundation for the transformative development, which will ultimately see the construction of a contemporary landmark and cultural destination at Cold Law in Northumberland.

Watch a short interview with artist, sculptor and designer of The Elizabeth Landmark, Simon Hitchens, on-site in Northumberland as the project breaks ground for the first time.

“Today is so incredibly important. It's establishing something we've all been focusing on and dreaming for, for years now."
